If you live in one of the four main cities within the immense Las Vegas Valley - Boulder City, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Las Vegas itself – there are undoubtedly many dental clinics nearby your home or work.
*** Hidden Dental Practices ***
Some dental offices you might be aware of, but the majority you probably aren’t.
That’s because even though there are so many dentist’s offices in the valley, their offices may be off the main thoroughfare or blended-into modern look-alike strip-mall architecture.
*** The Phone Book ***
Of course, one resource is the phone book.
In fact, the Las Vegas Valley Embark Yellow Pages has 66 pages of listings for dentists!
So, good luck using the phone book to find a close dentist.
Plus, the internet is just so much more usable than the phone book for a growing number of people – interactive, relevant, fast.
In addition, only dental practices that pay a lot of money (thousands a year) get the huge, full or half-page four-color yellow page ads that get a far better response rate.
The standard text listings are all but a waste of money.
But here’s a tip: The most expensive ad doesn’t necessarily mean the best choice for a dentist.
Don’t be misled…
*** The Big Valley ***
Another thing to realize is that the Las Vegas Valley encompasses a lot of territory.
In fact, it’s right at 600 square miles and has around 65 zip codes.
Most people don’t sign-up with the first dentist they find, like they don’t become a member of the first church they come across. In most cases, some investigation is required to find the “perfect fit”.
Put another way, people will ordinarily endure some inconvenience to get what they desperately need or want.
*** Driving And Stress ***
But clearly, the average person wants to drive as little as possible to run their errands in the expansive Las Vegas valley.
Considering that most people don’t like going to the dentist in the first place, having a long, hot and stressful drive before a dental appointment is not unlike rubbing salt into a wound.
Ok, so closer is better for most people.
But again, what’s the best way to locate a local dentist?
*** Use The Internet ***
With the exception of a personal referral from family or friend, your best research tool is the internet.
So, once again, there are four cities in a 600 square mile area with 65 zip codes and in excess of 1,200 dentists.
Where to begin?
Open your favorite search engine’s home page. Ours is Google.
*** Use The Right Search Terms ***
Type something like this into the search box: find a dentist, or find Las Vegas Pediatric Dentist.
If you are interested in finding a specialist, you can use terms like these: Henderson Oral Surgeon or Boulder City holistic dentist.
The advancements in search technology now allow
Check it out by just typing something like: nearby dental offices, local children’s dentist or even just the root term itself, like: root canal specialist or nitrous oxide dentist.
You can also enter a general term like dentist and your zip code into most search engines to get focused, local listings.
From there, you can also use the maps function to see exactly where a specific listing is in proximity to your home or work.
While in maps view, you can get driving directions and distances, as well.
So, try search terms like these to really get specific: dental office 89052 , family dentist 89144 or you might even try something like: teeth cleaning 89032.
Type search terms like bullets, excluding filler words like “a”, “an” or “the”.
The majority of searchers input full sentences. But in reality, Google (and other search engines) perform more efficiently without the use of such non-relevant, filler words such as adverbs.
*** The Search Listings ***
Be advised in advance about what you’ll probably find.
There are a lot of junky dental sites out there.
It’s sad, but the majority of dental sites seem to be mini-directories where only a few applicable dentists are represented.
So, much like the phone book, only the dentists who have paid the site owner for a listing will be represented.
So, that leaves the vast majority of dental practices out.
As time goes by you’ll see more and more dental practices with their own websites as well as fewer and fewer junky sites listed.
Unfortunately, the average dentist can only be found several pages deep in search engine listings for common terms like those given earlier.
*** It’s All About Marketing ***
It’s the same online as offline – if no one can find you, you don’t exist.
However, we can’t necessarily expect dentists to also be professional marketers.
So, it’s no wonder finding a suitable local dentist can end up being more of a challenge than one might initially think.
In the end, it’s only those dental practices who effectively place and market themselves within the community who are the most successful.
And because of the increase in customers these clinics receive, they also receive more personal referrals from those customers.
*** Persistence Pays ***
Ok, you’ve been warned about the challenges of finding a good dental practice. But we’re confident that with a little persistence and by using the tips we’ve provided, you’ll be successful.
Hopefully this article has provided some valuable insight into the challenges and methods involved in finding a dentist in your local area.
